Overpacking May Be My Superpower
Hi friend,
Let’s play a little game:
Are you an overpacker or an underpacker?
Go ahead, be honest.
If you’re like many of the women I coach, you’re an expert at planning ahead, “just in case.” You pack the extra cardigan, the backup charger, the maybe-I’ll-need-it book…
I get it.
I’m an overpacker, too.
I’ll never forget our first trip to England. We left Texas at the end of September, and I was dreaming of cool, cozy weather. So what did we do? We packed giant suitcases. One for each of us. Plus carry-ons. And—wait for it—a duffle bag just for overflow. (Yes. Really.)
It was… a lot.
We lugged those bags up narrow train steps, through winding streets, up five flights of stairs, onto the Tube, and back again. By the end of the trip? We were donating clothes to local charity shops just to lighten our load!
Can you relate?
Maybe not with luggage, but with something heavier—expectations, roles, fears, perfectionism, people-pleasing.
What Are You Carrying That You Were Never Meant to Hold?
It’s easy to get used to the weight.
You start thinking things like:
“I should be able to handle this.”
“If I just try harder…”
“I don’t want to disappoint anyone.”
But God never asked you to carry that kind of burden.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” — Matthew 11:28
Just like that overloaded suitcase, our emotional and mental baggage weighs us down—making joy, connection, and peace harder to reach.
What If You Could Unpack the Pressure?
Imagine setting down:
Perfectionism that whispers “not enough”
Inadequacy that keeps you second-guessing
Comparison and complaining that drains your soul
You can gently unpack those burdens. Not by striving harder, but by pausing, noticing, and choosing truth over pressure.
You already have everything you need. Sometimes you just need someone to help you sort through the contents of your “suitcase” and keep what’s actually helpful for the journey ahead.
Ready to lighten your load this summer?
